Two Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a robbery at Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to police.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, the force said.
The arrests follow an investigation into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.
A toddler aged three was one of the injured in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.
Officers detained a 31-year-old man for suspected theft and assault near the scene. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Police were called at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding a number of individuals injured by an irritating chemical believed to be an irritant spray.
The attack - which authorities stated was isolated and not considered terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
