Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
